About the course

Active listening is the ability to listen to the other person with full attention, to understand correctly both the content and the emotional subtext of what they say, and to show them that you have done so. It helps you avoid misunderstandings, gain a deeper understanding of the other person’s needs and point of view, create an atmosphere of trust and build effective relationships founded on mutual regard. During the course, participants will learn about the core techniques of active listening (for example, paraphrasing, clarifying questions, summarising, reflecting feelings and non-verbal cues), learn to recognise barriers to listening such as distraction, snap judgements and interrupting, and develop the skills of attentive, respectful and open listening in both workplace and everyday communication.

Who it is for

This course is suited to anyone who works with people, such as managers, salespeople, service providers and team members, and wants to understand the people they talk to more deeply. It is also useful for those who want to improve their personal relationships.

Why choose this course

Most people listen in order to reply rather than to understand, and the result is misunderstandings and lost trust.
This course teaches you to listen with full attention, to grasp both the content and the emotional subtext, and to use paraphrasing, clarifying questions and summarising.
You will recognise your own barriers to listening (distraction, snap judgements, interrupting) and learn to show the other person that you truly understand them.
